Rules for Ghibli Park Japanese Domestic Ticket Will Change from March Admission|How about International Tickets?

In November 2023, major rule changes were announced for Ghibli Park’s domestic ticket sales and admission procedures.

The main changes are the combination of admission areas and the interval between the desired admission date and the start of reservations.

Although this information is a little early for International Tickets, we think it is important to understand the future trend, so we provide this information including predictions.

On the other hand, for International Tickets, there is only the following announcement.

New tickets will be available with the opening of the new area "Valley of Witches" scheduled to open on March 16th (Sat), 2024.|GHIBLI PARK

The above announcement can be summarized as follows:

  • New tickets will be sold with the opening of the new “Valley of the Witches” area in March 2024
  • New tickets, including 5-area common tickets, will go on sale at 2:00 p.m. on January 10, 2024
  • The start date for this new ticket is not December 10, 2023
  • Details will be announced on the Ghibli Park website

….mm It is not clear whether it is a speculation or not (^_^; )

This article is intended to help you understand the changes that have been made to the way International Tickets are sold, as well as the announced sales structure and methods for tickets sold in Japan.

4 major changes in Ghibli Park admission and ticket reservation purchase

At this time, this information is only for visitors in Japan, but judging from the history to date, it is expected that similar rules will be applied to International Tickets purchasers after a delay of several months.

Therefore, please keep in mind that this rule is likely to be applied to International Tickets in the future, and read this article as a preliminary knowledge.

There are four major changes regarding Ghibli Park admission tickets.

#1. ticket purchase is moved forward more than 2 months before the month of admission to the park

Previously, tickets for admission to Ghibli Park were for the month three months after the month of reservation purchase (the 10th of each month).

However, with the park to be closed from late February to early March (March 15, to be exact) in 2024, tickets for admission on March 16 will be available for sale starting January 10.

Thereafter, it is expected that reservations will continue to be made two months in advance of admission.

International Tickets for admission after March 16th have not yet been announced.

With the above change that ticket reservation sales will be two months in advance, what has been announced is only for the Japanese domestic market.

International Tickets have not been announced as of December 5.

Please check the official website of Ghibli Park from time to time as the announcement will be made on December 10.

#2 . From individual areas to 3 ranks of area admission system

Previously, admission to Ghibli Park was by purchasing a set ticket for each area or two areas.

From now on, however, this rule will be drastically changed and visitors will be able to enter more than four areas with a single ticket.

Specifically, the four basic areas will be the Hill of Youth, Dondokoro Forest, Mononoke no Sato, and Witches’ Valley (opening in March 2024), with the addition of the Ghibli Grand Warehouse, making a total of five areas accessible to visitors.

There are three ranks of tickets, divided by the exhibits that can be entered. These three types of tickets are described below to the extent that they are understandable.

#3. Tickets can now be reserved one week in advance

This is Good News. A ticket that can be reserved and purchased one week in advance is now available.

This is an easy ticket for repeat visitors and families, mainly for locals.

This is the perfect ticket for those who want to enjoy the Ghibli Park in a casual manner, although there are some restrictions.

We will introduce this later.

#4. tickets that allow you to enter all buildings in the area in one day are also available

Although the opposite of #3, you can enjoy all of Ghibli Park in one day! The ticket is also called “The ticket to enjoy all of the Ghibli Park in one day!

This ticket allows you to enter all facilities in all 5 areas.

This ticket is great news for International Tickets buyers and visitors from overseas who want to visit all the facilities of Ghibli Park in one day since they cannot visit many times! This is great news for International Tickets buyers and people who come from overseas and want to visit all the facilities of Ghibli Park in one day because they cannot visit many times!

On the other hand, it may have the disadvantage that you may not be able to see all the exhibits in a short period of time.

This is a plan that will be especially appreciated by visitors from overseas, since it allows admission to all areas and all exhibits. However, to be honest, I still wonder if it is possible to visit all of them in one day. See below.

Aside from these concerns, the following is the new ticket structure and basic information that reflects these changes.

As for the names of the three tickets, please consider them as tentative names, as they are Japanese words rearranged into English.

Incidentally, a visual of the second phase opening of Ghibli Park has also been released.

Only the “Valley of Witches” area requires a designated entrance time in the morning and afternoon, but the other three areas can be entered at any time.

The cafes/restaurants, stores and playground equipment/rides in the four areas are also available for a fee.

However, the buildings within these four areas, such as “Howl’s Castle,” are not open to visitors.

Reservations for “Ghibli Park Sanpo Pass” will be available from 17:00 7 days prior to your visit to the park

As mentioned in #3, the “Ghibli Park Strolling Ticket” can be reserved and purchased 7 days prior to your visit.

For the past six months since we launched this website, the most frequently asked questions have been, “Why do we have to make reservations three months in advance? or “It doesn’t fit with my schedule to Japan, can’t you do something about it? We are not an official site, so of course we have to deal with the fact that we are not an official site.

Since we are not an official website, we had to explain the facts, but if you make a reservation 7 days before your arrival date, you should be able to “make it work” even after you have made up your mind (^^).

If we could secure a ticket a little earlier, say 10 days before departure, we could still go to Ghibli Park.

Ticket prices for “Ghibli Park Sanpo Pass”

Personally, I think the ticket price structure is quite reasonable. On weekdays, you can enter all four areas for only 1,500 yen.

If you are planning to stay in Japan for a longer period of time, you can ask a friend to reserve a ticket for you and enter together.

day | age Adult Child(age 4~12)
weekday 1,500yen 750yen
weekend& holiday 2,000yen 1,000yen

The entrance time slots (designated only for “Valley of Witches”) are: morning (opening time – 1:00 p.m.) / afternoon (1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.).

There are no designated entrance times for the three areas other than “Valley of Witches,” but if there is an entrance line, you must wait in line.

All visitors must be in line by 16:00, the last entry time.

About “Ghibli Park O-Sanpo Pass Premium”

The “Ghibli Park Grand Strolling Ticket Premium” is easy to understand because the “Grand Strolling Ticket” has “Premium” attached to it, but the contents and the price are also premium (^^;)

Like the “Ghibli Park Grand Strolling Ticket” above, you can enter all areas of Ghibli Park, but with this “Ghibli Park Grand Strolling Ticket Premium” you can enter the exhibits and buildings in each area.

Areas accessible with “Ghibli Park O-Sanpo Pass Premium”

The “Ghibli Park Grand Strolling Ticket Premium” also allows admission to five indoor and outdoor areas: “Hill of Youth,” “Dondoko Forest,” “Mononoke Village,” and “Valley of Witches,” as well as all facilities within each area. The queue to enter the areas is also limited.

Personally, I am disappointed that the old “World Emporium” and “Matsuki and Mei’s House” are no longer accessible with “Dondoko Forest” tickets.

“Ghibli Park O-Sanpo Pass Premium” to enter “Howl’s Castle”

The most important advantage of the “Ghibli Park Grand Strolling Ticket Premium” is that you can go inside the exhibits and buildings.

Satsuki and Mei’s House” has always been popular, but now you can also enter “Howl’s Castle”.

I know “moving” is missing from “Howl’s Moving Castle” and I don’t think it moves, but I’d still like to go in there.

I think this will be even more popular than “Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse” when it opens…. Popularity will be at a premium!

“Ghibli Park O-Sanpo Pass Premium” will be available for reservation two months in advance at 14:00 on the 10th.

The “Ghibli Park Grand Strolling Ticket Premium” will be available for reservation on the 10th of the month two months prior to the month of admission.

Again, the “Ghibli Park Grand Strolling Ticket Premium” will only be available for tickets sold in Japan.

With the previous International Tickets, the entrance time to “Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse” was after 12:00 pm. If the admission time was later, you might not have been able to enjoy the show as much…?

I hope that the International Tickets that will be sold in the future will have the same admission time system as in Japan.

Since “Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse” is the only one that requires a specific time, I think it might be possible…we’ll see what happens.

Ticket prices for “Ghibli Park O-Sanpo Pass Premium”

“Ghibli Park Grand Strolling Ticket Premium” allows you to enter the “World Emporium” (Hill of Youth), “House of Satsuki and May” (Dondoko Forest), “Okino’s House,” “Howl’s Castle,” and “Valley of Witches” (Witch’s House). Visitors can enter the buildings of the “Ghibli Park Grand Stroll”.

The difference between this ticket and the “Ghibli Park Grand Strolling Ticket Premium” is quite large, but you may or may not find this expensive.

There are no set entry times for the four areas other than “Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse,” but if there is a line, you will need to wait in line. All visitors must be present by 16:00 on the day of the event.

Are there any changes to how International Tickets are admitted to the park and how they are sold?

Now to the main issue.

There is no clear announcement yet (as of December 5, 2023) regarding International Tickets for Ghibli Park admission after March.

Therefore, as of now, there will be no change in the admission method and ticket sales method until February admission.

Although it is a guess from here, even if there is no change in ticket sales from March onward, we believe that the admission method for International Tickets will be the same as that for Japan for a number of months based on past history.

There is a difference in the visitor base between tickets for Japan and International Tickets, and even if an unforeseen problem occurs, it can be compensated in some way if it is for Japan, but that cannot be done if a one-time visitor from overseas has a problem at that time.

Although we do not think that visitors from overseas are our main target, we assume that the reason why we delayed the start of sales of International Tickets in the past, and also the reason why we delayed the introduction of various kinds of ticketing systems compared to those for the Japanese domestic market, is to ensure a reliable operation.

This new form of ticket sales & admission should become the standard

In any case, the International Tickets will be changed to the new ticketing and admission system in about 2 to 3 months’ time.

And since the completion of the Valley of the Witches in March marks the completion of Ghibli Park, we expect that this new ticketing and admission system will become the standard.

That is why we are writing this article. Let’s look forward to the announcement of the new ticket system.
